This simple but effective mod allows for a more natural aiming of the Deluxe. The pictures unfortunately don't capture the "red dot" brightness - I couldn't get the camera to focus on the pin and not the target or display. (Click on the thumbnail to see a higher resolution picture). The sight pin itself is small enough that it does not interfere, or obstruct the sensor dome on the Deluxe.
The mode uses a 0.04 diameter TRUGLOTM Pro Dot red sight pin (use the green version with the orange deluxe for contrast). These are about $6 at your local sports shop and are used on bow sights, you will find them in the archery/hunting section. You will also need a 4-40 bolt (at least 1", longer if you can get it).
1) Remove the screw from the front of the Deluxe.
2) Remove the bolt from the sight pin.
3) Remove the head (grind or cut off) from the 4-40 bolt - You will need the full length of a 1" bolt, so grinding is the best option. On longer bolts you can cut the bolt to 1 - 1.125" (9/8").
4) Screw the bolt into the sight pin until it bottoms out.
5) Now carefully screw the other end of the bolt into the hole left by removing the screw from the Deluxe. You are effectively tapping the hole, so make sure you are going in straight and true.
6) Using a sharp knife cut a notch in the Deluxe casing where the two half's join just above the display.
7) Using the side sight, line up the delux on a distant target. Adjust the height of the pin by screwing it in or out until the sight pin / notch also lines up on the target (using a rest / clamp to hold the Deluxe helps here).
If you want to make it look better, simply add some black wire heat shrink (between steps 4 & 5 and shrink it with a heat gun after step 7).
Happy tagging non-gangster style!
Important Note: I have not noticed any problems with removing the screw from the front of the Deluxe, but I presume it has a function. Additionally, you will need to be more carefully with the tagger after the mod; the pin is nowhere near as rugged as the rest of the Deluxe, and being on the front end of the Deluxe it could easily be banged - especially in and about trees and bushes.
